About
The McCuan family established a Jersey Dairy Farm of approximately 154 acres in Drouin South between 1937/1938. The Kenney family originated Kalorama in the Dandenong's, and were flower growers.
In 1949, the Kenney family were forced to sell their land, as the state water supply who had built the Silvan dam, wanted to build a further dam in Kalorama. Mr. Wall Kenney his four sons, and daughter decided to move to Drouin South and purchase "Glenfyne" after it was place on the market. The Kenney 's worked tirelessly converting the Dairy farm into a working flower farm.
Around 1951 the residence which still stands today, was built. Many of the mature trees on the property were planted throughout the 1950's. In 1960, Mr Wall Kenney subdivided the property, and sold six acre's to his son Ray, who decided to transform the property into a wedding venue.
After two or three very wet weddings due to the lack of cover, Ray was approached by his friend Mr. Hales, who mentioned a disused church in Ripplebrook was up for sale. Ray negotiated the price, and had the then dishevelled, little church trucked up to Drouin South at the grand cost of $1000. The little church was slowly refurbished to its original grandeur, and "Glenfyne Garden's and Chapel" was established.
In April 2008, Mr and Mrs Saldaneri purchased Glenfyne Garden's and Chapel from Mr Ray Kenney. Anthony and Silvana worked passionately for six long months modernising the homestead, re-establishing the beautiful gardens and introducing many new plants and trees. The shedding and outbuilding were lovingly restored, and now includes some fine antiques. Included in the restoration was the addition of a quaint little cafe, where Silvana prepares delectable, traditional Italian meals.
In December 2008, after much hard work, Glenfyne Garden's Cafe and Chapel was officially re-opened to the public for garden viewing, weddings, and beautiful meals.
From July 2011 Glenfyne has been under new Ownership. Maryanne and Danny Lukic have given the venue a new lease of life and are committed to making Glenfyne an attraction which should not be overlooked!
